NAWiStem3D

The NAWiStem3D research project takes an interdisciplinary approach to research on and with neural organoids which are stem cell-derived models of the human brain and neuropsychiatric disease.

The consortium brings together expertise in neuroscience, philosophy, neuroethics, and law. Our overarching aim is to contribute, over the coming years, to a realistic assessment of this emerging technology and to promote its responsible development and use. Alongside analyzing current developments, we will develop responsible recommendations to provide guidance to researchers, ethics committees, and policymakers.

The research is conducted at two sites, Bonn and Jülich, within the framework of the German Federal Ministry of Research, Technology and Space funding programme “Ethical, Legal and Social Aspects of Future Topics in the Modern Life Sciences, as well as Developmental Biology Research and its Potential Applications in Humans”. Institutionally, the project is based at the University of Bonn and Forschungszentrum Jülich.
